What is antimicrobial film?
Antimicrobial film is a thin, clear, self-adhesive vinyl with an antimicrobial agent built into the film itself. Ardor installs Hexis PURE ZONE® film, a 60-micron cast PVC film with silver ions in its top layer. When moisture or cleaning products touch the surface, the silver ions activate and inhibit the growth of bacteria on the film between cleanings. It goes right over smooth surfaces you already have, so there's no demolition.
Protection that keeps working between cleanings
Even well-cleaned surfaces get touched hundreds of times between cleanings. Antimicrobial film adds a layer that keeps working around the clock on the surfaces people touch most: door push plates and pull handles, reception counters, breakroom tables, elevator and keypad panels, and the lower part of walls in busy hallways. It's smooth, waterproof and easy to wipe down, and it can also protect printed graphics and signs.
Where businesses use antimicrobial film
-
Offices & reception areas
Front desks, conference tables, door plates and elevator call panels.
-
Medical & dental clinics
Check-in counters, exam room doors, cabinet fronts and hallway walls.
-
Gyms & fitness studios
Front desks, locker room doors and high-touch wall areas.
-
Schools & daycares
Doors, desks, counters and cubbies that see constant use.
-
Restaurants & food service
Host stands, menu boards, doors and restroom surfaces. Not for surfaces that touch unpackaged food.
-
Printed graphics & signs
Clear antimicrobial film can go over printed wall graphics, wayfinding and signs to protect the print.
What antimicrobial film does, and doesn't, do
Hexis tests PURE ZONE® to ISO 22196, the lab standard for measuring antibacterial activity on plastic surfaces, and reports a reduction of more than 99.99% of the bacteria tested on the film's surface.
- It works 24 hours a day on the film's surface for as long as the film is in place.
- It handles your normal cleaning products: water, alcohol, chlorine bleach and standard healthcare disinfectants, used without abrasive pads.
- It supports your cleaning routine. It doesn't replace regular cleaning and disinfection.
- We don't make claims about viruses, and the film isn't meant for direct contact with unpackaged food.

Walk-through and quote

-
Choose the finish
Clear gloss or matte film keeps your surfaces looking the same. Decorative wood and leather-look versions are also available.
-
Surface prep
Surfaces are cleaned and degreased so the film bonds properly. The film needs smooth, sound surfaces, not damaged or peeling paint.
-
Install
Our own installers apply the film on site with as little disruption to your space as possible.

Antimicrobial film FAQs
What is antimicrobial film made of?
Hexis PURE ZONE® PURZON060 is a 60-micron transparent cast PVC film with a solvent-based acrylic adhesive. The antimicrobial agent is a silver phosphate glass built into the film.
How long does the antimicrobial effect last?
Hexis reports that the film's antimicrobial properties were still measured after 6 years and 365 cleanings. Heavy daily handling wears any film faster, so very high-traffic spots like push plates may need new film sooner.
What can I clean antimicrobial film with?
Water, alcohol, chlorine bleach and standard healthcare disinfectants, with a soft cloth or a non-abrasive pad.
Does antimicrobial film replace cleaning and disinfection?
No. It inhibits bacterial growth on the film's surface between cleanings, but you should keep your normal cleaning and disinfection routine.
Does it protect against viruses like COVID-19?
We don't make claims about viruses. Treat the film as one extra layer alongside your cleaning routine, not as protection against illness.
What surfaces can antimicrobial film go on?
Smooth, sound surfaces such as laminate counters, painted metal doors and push plates, glass, acrylic and sealed painted walls. It isn't for damaged or peeling paint, or for surfaces that touch unpackaged food.
